Why I'm Thankful to be a Man

As we approach this week of Thanksgiving, like you, I am reminded of how very much in my life for which I am grateful to God. I am certainly thankful for my family, my friends, my health, and the great privilege I have been given in serving as pastor to such a wonderful congregation. However, I am also more aware today of things for which God has given that I never realized just how grateful I should be. I recently came across a list of reasons for which I am daily thankful of a blessing that God has given to me. Some of you (or at least half of the congregation) will wholeheartedly agree.

25 Reasons Why I am Thankful God Made Me a Man:

1. Phone conversations are over in 30 seconds flat.

2. A five-day vacation requires only one suitcase.

3. You can open all your own jars.

4. Dry cleaners and hair cutters don't rob you blind.

5. You can go to the bathroom without a support group.

6. You don't have to learn to spell a new last name.

7. You can leave the motel bed unmade.

8. You get extra credit for the slightest act of thoughtfulness.

9. If someone forgets to invite you to something, he or she can still be your friend.

10. You know stuff about tanks.

11. Everything on your face stays its original color.

12. You can quietly watch a game with your buddy for hours without ever thinking: "He must be mad at me."

13. Gray hair and wrinkles only add character.

14. Wedding dress--$2,000. Tuxedo rental—$75 bucks.

15. You can drop by to see a friend without having to bring a little gift.

16. If another guy shows up at the party in the same outfit, you just might become lifelong friends.

17. Your pals can be trusted never to trap you with: "So, notice anything different?"

18. You are not expected to know the names of more than five colors.

19. You don't mooch off other's desserts.

20. You are unable to see wrinkles in your clothes.

21. The same hairstyle lasts for years, maybe decades.

22. You don't have to shave below your neck.

23. One wallet and one pair of shoes, one color, all seasons.

24. You have freedom of choice concerning growing a mustache.

25. Christmas shopping can be accomplished for 25 relatives, on December 24th, in 45 minutes.

Seriously, I am reminded to be most thankful for God’s great mercy on my life through the giving of His Son. I fully agree with Paul who wrote, “But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life” (Titus 3:4-7). Give thanks for all that God has given (even if you’re not a man!)

Giving Thanks,

Jason
